Lamar County Court Docket Searches
Start with the right court. The official Lamar County court site links to the state Circuit and District Court divisions. Lamar County Circuit Court handles felonies, major civil claims, and domestic relations. Misdemeanors, state traffic tickets, small claims, lower-value civil matters, child support, and juvenile cases sit in Lamar County District Court. Probate goes to the Probate Office. A city ordinance or city traffic charge stays with its Lamar County municipal court. An appeal moves it. A case number is the fastest key. It separates people with similar names and reveals the division and year. Without one, gather the exact party spelling, a rough filing year, the case type, and the likely Lamar County court. Then work through this order:
- Read the citation, complaint, notice, or order and identify the Lamar County court named on it.
- Open Just One Look for a Lamar County Circuit or District Court case, then register or sign in.
- Choose Lamar County and the right division before searching by name or case number.
- Check the Lamar County caption, filing date, status, and newest setting before relying on the result.
- Call, mail, or visit the Lamar County Circuit Clerk when online access fails or an authenticated copy is needed.
The Just One Look interface displays the statewide entry point for a Lamar County record before any login.
That login screen only opens paid Lamar County case detail. It does not confirm that a searched case is public or available.
Lamar County Docket Access Channels
Online access is just one route to a Lamar County docket. Just One Look sells trial-court case records on demand. The Lamar County Circuit Clerk also offers free electronic viewing of public Circuit and District Court records at the office. This runs during regular business hours under Alabama's 2025 court-record rules. Copies, printing, mailing, and certification may still carry fees. A focused written request can go by mail to P.O. Box 434, Vernon, AL 35592. Call ahead to confirm the total. Ask about the accepted payment form and whether email or fax works.
Lamar County posts no anonymous docket or daily-calendar portal. If the paid service is not practical, call the Lamar County Circuit Clerk at (205) 695-7193. Or visit 330 First Street NE in Vernon. Ask whether a public-access computer is open that day rather than assuming it. Probate and municipal cases belong to their own offices. The Lamar County court directory helps route a request to the right division.
The division list earns its keep here. Naming the court and case type lets the Lamar County clerk locate the record faster.
Court Dockets: What They Show
A Lamar County docket is a running chronological index. It is also called a case record or Case Action Summary. Typical entries cover the division, case number, style, parties, counsel, case type, filing date, status, events, settings, orders, and disposition. A Lamar County criminal docket may add charges, bond, sentence, costs, restitution, or probation events. Civil files may show service, answers, motions, judgments, and post-judgment work. Fields vary by case. The public system promises no complete list for every matter.
| Case number | The Lamar County court-assigned key for the division, filing year, and sequence. |
|---|---|
| Style or caption | The formal names and roles of the parties. |
| Action history | A dated list of Lamar County filings, notices, orders, and court events. |
| Settings | Lamar County hearing or trial dates, sometimes with time, room, judge, or setting type. |
| Disposition | The Lamar County result, which must be read more closely than a general “disposed” status. |

That division guidance matters. Read any docket entry in light of the Lamar County court that wrote it.
Lamar County Case Records Versus Filings
The docket is not the whole file. It tells you that a Lamar County complaint, motion, notice, order, judgment, or exhibit was filed. The named paper itself holds the argument or ruling. So a line reading “motion filed” does not mean the motion was granted. A status of “disposed” stays silent on how the case ended. The charge may have been dismissed, resolved by plea, tried, or closed some other way. Follow the event to a linked image when offered. Or ask the Lamar County clerk for the document by name.
A plain copy is not a certified copy either. Certification adds the Lamar County Circuit Clerk's authentication where formal proof is required. Just One Look serves up convenience copies of case information. The court office holds the official record. For a transcript, contact the Lamar County court reporter. A docket is not a word-for-word account of a hearing. These distinctions save a second trip. They also keep a screen print from passing as an authenticated Lamar County judgment.
The Lamar County small-claims resource shows how forms and case documents sit behind a District Court docket.
The Lamar County case record points to each event, and the filed form or order supplies the substance behind it.
Lamar County Courts and Their Dockets
Lamar County sits in Alabama's 24th Judicial Circuit. One Lamar County Circuit Clerk keeps both Circuit and District Court records. The office sits at the Lamar County Courthouse. That unified office does not absorb probate or municipal files. The right custodian turns on the subject and the court named on the initiating paper. An appeal from municipal or District criminal court can open a new Circuit Court record for a trial de novo. That means a fresh trial, and the lower-court file remains.
| Court | Docket covers | Where to search |
|---|---|---|
| Lamar Circuit Court | Felonies, major civil, domestic relations, qualifying appeals | Just One Look or Circuit Clerk |
| Lamar District Court | Misdemeanors, state traffic, small claims, district civil, juvenile, child support | Just One Look or Circuit Clerk |
| Lamar Probate Court | Estates, guardianships, conservatorships, adoptions, and probate matters | Probate Office |
| Municipal courts | City ordinance and municipal traffic cases | Named city clerk or municipal court |
The Lamar County District Civil guidance confirms the lower state court runs its own civil docket and procedures.
Picking the division at the start pays off. It keeps a District Court case from being hunted in the Lamar County Circuit civil record.
Lamar County Docket System Roles
Three Alabama systems do different jobs in a Lamar County court docket. AlaFile lets attorneys and registered filers submit papers and receive service. AlacourtPlus handles internal processing. Just One Look sells read-only public access to trial-court case detail, with some images. Seeing an AlaFile login does not mean a Lamar County resident must e-file. No one must e-file just to inspect a public docket. None of the products replaces the Circuit Clerk's authority over the original Lamar County file.
Just One Look gates its detailed Lamar County search form behind a login. Before that, a pre-login screen only asks for an account name and password. A registration route is there for new users. Check the county, division, caption, filing date, and status before purchasing any Lamar County case detail. A purchase is a snapshot. It will not update itself. A newer setting or ruling may require a refresh or direct confirmation.
The local judicial navigation shows the divisions served in Lamar County.
That Lamar County routing works alongside the statewide tools, and it stays useful whenever a portal label leaves you guessing about which court holds a Lamar County case.
Court Dates and Settings in Lamar County
Lamar County posts no free anonymous daily calendar. Start instead with the date on a citation, notice, or signed order. Next, check the newest setting in the case record. Then confirm with the clerk or court. A filing date is not a hearing date. An old setting also lingers in the history after a reset, and “continued” or “reset” only means an earlier date was displaced. Trust the later Lamar County notice or order.
Common labels include arraignment, preliminary hearing, status conference, docket call, motion hearing, plea, trial, sentencing, probation review, juvenile hearing, and small-claims trial. A docket call tests readiness across many cases. It does not prove a trial occurred. For state traffic, the date printed on a Lamar ticket is a trial date. Confirm a city ticket with that city court. More scheduling detail appears in the Lamar County court schedule.
The official Lamar traffic page explains the role of the ticket date.
Paper matters too. Its Lamar County instructions show why the initiating paper can matter as much as the online Lamar County docket when checking a setting.
Lamar County Court Docket Volume
Fiscal-year figures show what tends to fill the Lamar County docket. In FY2023, Lamar County Circuit Court received 648 matters and disposed of 605. Criminal work led the way with 436 filings, 67 percent of Circuit filings. Civil filed 102. Domestic relations filed 110. Lamar County District Court is busier. It received 2,926 matters and disposed of 2,795. Traffic made up 55 percent of District filings. Criminal took 30 percent. Small claims, other civil, juvenile, and child support share the remainder.
These are completed Lamar County fiscal-year totals, not a live count of pending cases. That matters for searching. Choosing the right Lamar County division is not a minor detail. One judicial center holds a broad set of records, and the District traffic docket alone represents a large share of the work. A searcher still needs the individual case record. Rely on the latest court notice too.
Docket Access Under Alabama Law
Access rests on Alabama's court-record framework, on the state constitutional open-courts tradition in Article I, Section 13, and on common-law context. The Alabama Rules of Court-Record Privacy and Confidentiality took effect January 1, 2025. The rules draw three lines. Free electronic viewing happens at the clerk's office. Fee-authorized copies and paid remote subscriber access sit beyond that line. Public does not mean posted online. Court rules, statutes, and case-specific orders can limit access.
Key access rules:
Alabama Code § 12-15-133 protects juvenile legal and social records from ordinary public access.
Alabama Rule of Civil Procedure 5 governs filing and service while placing protected-data duties on filers.
Alabama Code § 36-12-40 recognizes access to public writings, subject to exceptions and the separate rules governing judicial files.
Alabama Title 15, Chapter 27 restricts qualifying criminal records after an effective expungement order.
A portal that returns nothing proves nothing. The miss may reflect the wrong court, a date-range gap, sealed or expunged material, or a legally confidential case. Ask the clerk whether the issue is indexing or access. Staff cannot reveal sealed contents.
Lamar County Docket Search Misses
When a known Lamar County case fails to appear, check venue before concluding anything. A municipal citation may never reach the Circuit or District record unless it is appealed. Probate matters belong to the Probate Office. Older paper files may not be imaged. Spelling slips can also block a match. So can the wrong case type, an off filing year, or an unpaid login step. Juvenile, adoption, sealed, and expunged matters may be restricted on purpose.
Call the clerk with the case number if you have it. Otherwise give the full party spelling, the approximate year, the division, and the record sought. Ask for a docket or Case Action Summary first. Then name the exact filing, order, or judgment. Staff can share record and scheduling facts. They cannot advise how to handle a case. Route a city court or probate request to that office's own clerk.
The Circuit Judge page identifies the Circuit Court role within the 24th Judicial Circuit.
The circuit spans Lamar, Fayette, and Pickens Counties. So check every notice for both the court name and the hearing place.
How the Clerk Keeps Docket Records
Denita B. Hays serves as Circuit Clerk for Lamar County. Her office keeps the records for both Circuit Court and District Court. That means filings come in. Case files get maintained, and orders and judgments are recorded there. The clerk also takes in court-ordered money. The office helps with jury administration. It also issues certified copies of court records. Probate Court and municipal courts sit outside this office. When you write to request something, be specific. Name the court, the case number, the document title, and the filing or order date. Say whether you want a plain or certified copy.

Call the clerk's office about copy and certification fees. Do this before mailing any payment. In a mailed request, state a cost ceiling and how you want delivery handled. One caution applies. Some stale official directories still name an earlier officeholder. The current Circuit Clerk profile gives the name that counts.
Checking the date on any source matters here, since older official directories still list a different clerk.
Lamar County Courthouse Record History
Vernon's courthouse has stood since 1909. Its first look was Classical, with four large columns, a pedimented portico, and a dome. A 1948 modernization stripped those features and added a third floor. The building's changing face mirrors the records held inside. Old bound dockets predate modern imaging. Yet the courthouse remains the constant home for files that never went online.
The clerk's profile now says records are electronically imaged. Alabama splits filing, internal case work, and public access across different platforms. Older cases may still need an archive search, bound volumes, or microfilm. Lamar County publishes no digitization start date. A case's age alone cannot tell you whether an image should exist online. Ask the clerk about the record's format and expected turnaround.
The District Judge page covers one court. It is the court that still hears much of Lamar County's present-day docket.
Digital files and paper legacy alike still lead back to the local record custodian.
Restricted Lamar County Court Dockets
Not every Lamar County court record is open. Juvenile legal and social files stay confidential under Alabama Code § 12-15-133. Probate adoption records are restricted too. A sealing order can close an entire case or just one document. After an expungement order, qualifying criminal records become restricted as well. Filers bear their own duty here. They must shield Social Security numbers, account details, protected addresses, and facts about minors.
Some domestic or protection cases show a public shell. Sensitive filings, addresses, or exhibits stay closed. If a record you expect is missing, first confirm the court and case number. The clerk can tell you whether the problem lies in the index or date range. The clerk cannot reveal sealed content. Legal advice is off limits too. Getting lawful access to a sealed file may take a motion and a judicial order.
Note: a blank search result can mean several things. It may reflect the wrong custodian, an older paper file, or a legal access limit.
City-by-City Court Dockets in Lamar County
The five profiled municipalities come from the 2020 Census incorporated-place table. Each city handles its own ordinance and municipal traffic matters. That work runs through a city clerk or court. Felonies and state traffic tickets do not belong there. Those cases, along with major civil matters, run through the county and state channels instead. The court named on your citation or notice is the best first clue for routing. Note that no single municipal docket search covers all five cities.
Vernon Court Records
County seat, population 1,921. Separate city cases from Circuit and District matters heard in Vernon.
Sulligent Court Records
Population 1,879. Start with the court named on the citation and the municipal clerk for city cases.
Millport Court Records
Population 1,010. Confirm municipal payment participation before using a statewide traffic tool.
Kennedy Court Records
Population 435. No verified official town docket portal was found, so use the notice and current town contact.
Detroit Court Records
Population 230. Limited online court infrastructure makes the issuing court and clerk the key sources.
A city case can later spawn a Circuit Court appeal record. The new de novo case does not erase the municipal file. Tracing one dispute through its court stages may therefore require both county-level and municipal records.
Map and Directions to the Lamar County Courthouse
Circuit and District Court records are kept at the Lamar County Courthouse, 330 First Street NE, in Vernon. The building holds every state-court division for the county rather than separate civil and criminal facilities, and it contains both a main courtroom and a juvenile courtroom. Jury visitors check in at the lobby table by 8:30 a.m., which gives a sense of how early to arrive for other courthouse business as well.

Allow extra time for parking and metal-detector screening. Weapons and smoking are prohibited inside, phones must be on vibrate, and camera phones may not be used in the courtroom. Confirm counter hours before traveling, since the county has posted extraordinary closures in the past.
